TREATMENT OBJECTIVES
Cognitive Self Change
Cognitive self change is the process of identifying what and how we think. When youth begin to understand that what they think determines the choices they make, only then can they begin to make choices that will benefit them over time.

Youth will examine personal beliefs and determine if those beliefs are helpful or hurtful. They will identify personal values, and communicate those said values to their peers and clinical staff. They will then be held accountable to live in a way that demonstrates their established values.

Youth will also examine errors in thinking that keep them trapped in the culture of drugs and criminality. Clients will be held accountable for their actions, both individually and as a group.

These things are accomplished through group therapy, one on one counseling, educational groups and individual assignments.

Family Reunification
Family reunification and healing is paramount to the youth's success and personal growth. Open, honest communication with family members is encouraged and the healing process begins immediately. Family members are included in the treatment process whenever possible, and the client, as well as the counselor, keeps the family member updated on their progress. Casual visitations are encouraged which allows the family member to follow their child's progress. Quarterly, we devote one week to family therapy. This is fondly referred to as "Family Week." Invitations are extended to all significant family members. During this time, you can expect your fears to be faced, hopes to become known, and tears to fall endlessly, forgiveness to be found, and love to be shared. All of these are accomplished by a performance of family roles, as seen through the eyes of the client, in the form of a family sculpture, talking circles, sweat lodge ceremony, knee to knee communication exercises, and individual sessions. We believe in the power of healing of family relationships and we honor this with a celebration of new beginnings concluding the week of hard work.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment and Education
Many of our young people our troubled not only with alcohol or drug problems, but with mental health issues that make the recovery process difficult. For those people who do not have these issues, their lives may be impacted by those people close to them that do. Therefore, education on these disorders allows the young people to develop empathy and patience for those who suffer. Remembering that there but for the grace of God go I. All available forms of therapy and intervention are utilized to ensure that the client has the best possible chance of success. The counseling staff works closely with the behavioral health specialist to determine the best possible approach. It is our belief that anyone entering our doors can restore their lives to balance and harmony given the opportunity.

EDUCATION
Wemble Academy
Wemble House believes that education is essential in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, youth entering our program are also enrolled in "Wemble Academy". This process begins with contacting the youth's school and determining if there is an IEP or 504. If the youth is behind in any classes, it is determined which subjects would be beneficial for the youth to study during their stay at Wemble House.

Once the student starts coming to class, placement tests are completed to assess their levels, making sure they receive the right course work for their ability. We also evaluate transcripts to find if the student is missing any required classes, if they are, we start them in that class, so they can start the process of credit advancement to move towards graduation. During class time, students will be working on one or more of the following classes:

English (all grade levels),
Math (basic math-Geometry)
American History
Global Studies
Typing/Keyboarding

Students who are enrolled in school have the ability to earn credits for many aspects of their treatment work. Students completing satisfactory work, may earn additional credits in the following:

PE
Native American Cultural Studies
Health
Arts & Crafts
Personal Growth
Small Group Communication in addition to their Classroom

Course Work
Students, who meet the criteria for the GED option, will study the 5 subjects required for GED testing. Once the student meets the level required to test for their GED, they are scheduled to start taking their GED tests at the local community college testing facility. Students need to obtain a 510 on each of their predictor tests before they are allowed to start the official GED testing phase.
Students will be using text books, direct instruction, computer applications (PLATO, Mavis Beacon, CIS, etc...), handouts, video and other means of instruction for course work. Students are encouraged to help in developing their own learning program, style and subject matter.
